PLAN ---- OBSID 08197 0 NGC1023 2007:346:12:20:11.570 48.7 ACIS-S NONE - Deep Chandra and Hubble Observations of NGC 1023: Testing the Origin of Low-Mass X-ray Binaries in a Lenticular Galaxy. MP: The DEC1707A load products were released yesterday, and will be reviewed today at 2:00. S/C: We are finishing work on the monthly ephemeris update preapproved CAP. Significant solar activity: At midnight there was 1 spotted region on the visible solar disk. The solar flare activity level was very low. No C class events were recorded yesterday. Sunspot 978 is large but it does not pose a threat for strong solar flares. GOES X-ray flux: very quiet CMEs reported for past two days: December 9-11: No obvious fully or partly Earth directed CMEs were observed in LASCO imagery. The control center was located at Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland. A unique feature was that quick look data were transmitted to the Uhuru team in Cambridge over phone lines using a new-fangled thing called a modem. The quick look data allowed the observers to take advantage of new discoveries quickly, changing the observing plan as the mission proceeded. The satellite was about the size of R2D2's big brother, with four windmill-like solar panels. It contained two banks of X-ray detectors, one with 30 arc minute and the other with 5 degree one dimensional (slit field of view) resolution. Compare with Chandra's two dimensional 0.3 arc second resolution!
