SOT shift report 2007-03-06 L2784 File created at 2007:065:13:42 UTC = 08:42 AM Mar-06-2007 EST End 11:00:00 AM EST SOT Lead: Ed Kellogg PLAN ---- OBSID 07431, TWA14 2007:065:06:52, ACIS-S LETG - X-ray spectral diagnostics of accretion processes in pre-main sequence stars: TWA14. Plain english: a gas cloud collapses under its own gravity, forms a swirling disk like a bathtub draining, and the gas that falls down the drain forms a new star! That's accretion. This observation does a detailed study of what's happening in the accretion disk using the Chandra high resolution grating spectrometer to look at emission lines from various elements. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is very low (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity: At midnight there were 2 spotted regions on the visible solar disk. The solar flare activity level was very low. No C class events were recorded yesterday. (http://www.dxlc.com/solar/). GOES x-ray flux: very quiet. CMEs reported for past two days: March 3-5: No obvious partly or fully Earth directed CMEs were detected in LASCO imagery. GOT/IST: - DATA: - SOT: Yesterday's CONFIG_MON message about a 3 arcmin attitude discrepancy was caused by sampling when the SIM had just finished moving and the spacecraft attitude had not yet settled. Thanks to Tom for analyzing this.
