Pass through perigee, perform ACIS cti on egress. Then do obsid 7906, an ACIS-S observation of the group of galaxies 1635 in the 2dfGRS survey, to test conditions for galaxy mergers leading to giant ellipticals. Then obsid 9580, a continuation of the ACIS-S/LETG observations of SNR1987A to extend the X-ray spectrum to longer wavelength and measure changes in temperature and velocity of the gas, as part of a multi-wavelength campaign including Spitzer, HST, and ground-based observatories. EPH temp: 107.86 degF EPH 27V: 10.25 NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS The ACIS FEP0 bias parity error alarm reported yesterday was due to the known occurence of errors in an illegal chip position. We counted so many just because of the unusually long real-time comm. Peter Ford has now implemented software in our ground monitors to ignore errors from that location, so we will only alarm if there are more than 10 "genuine" bias parity errors. Flight Director's Change Control Board this afternoon will consider an ACIS request to perform three preliminary tests of turning off the detector housing heater, for a limited time. These are directed toward turning off the heater permanently to regain control of the ACIS focal plane temperature when pointed in the anti-sun direction. From the 9am status meeting: Three supports in the past day. JPL/Goldstone had a communication problem, but it was resolved, and all support requirements were met. One stored command segment was uplinked, on-board loads are good until 253:05:40. CAP 425G for the monthly EIA self-test was successfully run. There will be "shadow" supports by DSS-16, listed as "unknown" in the comm schedule above. These should have no impact on Chandra. Stored command products for SEP1007A were circulated this morning for a load review at 1pm today. The 200 kev solar protons remain at background level. No significant solar activity is expected.
