PASS Support-UTC BOT EOT ---Station------ Local Time ----------------- ------------ --- --- ---------------- ---------- (none) S/C: All quiet. Significant solar activity: very quiet. GOES X-ray flux: very low. Early yesterday morning, Earth passed through a large population of meteoroids. Perhaps Chandra encountered them, too. "Our SENTINEL all-sky camera picked up... a shower that began at [Sept. 9th] 0620 UT and lasted approximately 4 hours," reports NASA astronomer Bill Cooke of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. (http://www.spaceweather.com/). This shower was from the September Perseids (coming from Perseus). These were expected on 8-9 Sept. "The September Perseids (not to be confused with the more famous August Perseids) are normally dim and few. The shower [usually] produces only 3 to 6 meteors per hour at maximum around Sept. 9th of every year. But on Sept. 9, 2008, the sky lit up with fireballs...SENTINEL all-sky camera picked up 25 bright meteors in a shower" (http://www.spaceweather.com/meteors/gallery_09sep08.htm?PHPSESSID=2op18karv5sle6ma74su7d2qt6).
