Item 1.   NEUTRON STARS AND PULSARS ABOUT 40 YEARS AFTER THEIR DISCOVERY

                           May 14. - 19. 2006


  Neutron stars and pulsars present the edge of the observable universe.
  Advances of observational techniques and of the theoretical understanding 
  and modeling of involved physical processes asks for continuous discussion.

  To initiate and stimulate comprehensive discussions on current topics of  
  neutron star and pulsar research a one week workshop will take place in the
  Physics Center in Bad Honnef near Bonn (Germany) from May 14 - 19, 2006. 
  The workshop will review in detail and with comprehensive talks the current
  status of pulsar and neutron star astronomy, about 40 years after the discovery. 
  The character of the seminar will be informal, i.e. we would like to encourage the 
  participants, especially young students and post-docs  to contribute and cover a 
  broad range of topics. Participation is free of registration fee.

  The seminar will include:

  1.  Invited review talks (40 min + 10 min discussion)
  2.  Contributed talks
  3.  Posters: generous space and time will be provided.
  4.  Reporter talks, summarizing the main points of the relevant posters
  5.  Discussions

Item 2.  ASTROPHYSICS OF NEUTRON STARS AND BLACK HOLES: OBSERVATIONS   
         -High Energy Astrophysics Space Missions"   
====================================================================


Dear Colleague

The Eleventh Marcel Grossmann Meeting on General Relativity, will be
held in July 23-29, 2006 in Berlin, Germany. The meeting takes
place every three years and brings together a large number of scientists
to discuss recent advances in gravitation, general relativity, field
theories, experimental tests including relativistic aspects of high energy
astrophysics.

You will find some basic information about the meeting and the meeting
site on "http://www.icra.it/MG/mg11/". More information specifically about
deadlines will appear when available.

The meeting includes plenary sessions and parallel sessions. Norbert S.
Schulz (MIT, Cambridge, USA) and Elena Pian (INAF, Trieste, Italy) will
co-chair the parallel session:

"ASTROPHYSICS OF NEUTRON STARS AND BLACK HOLES: OBSERVATIONS
-High Energy Astrophysics Space Missions"

The session will take place during 2 half-days and will include both
invited and contributed talks. Several invited speakers have already
agreed to review some recent critical progress in the galactic and
extragalactic domain. We here would like to solicit oral contributions
from the community. If you are interested in presenting
recent results of space-based observations of high energy sources, please
send a title and abstract to Norbert Schulz or Elena Pian (see e-mail
addresses below).

The Bethe Centennial Symposium on Astrophysics will
be held at Cornell University on June 2 and 3, 2006.
This symposium, which will be hosted by the Departments
of Physics and Astronomy, is intended to celebrate
Hans's exuberance for astrophysics by looking ahead
to the future of those areas of inquiry that captivated
him most during the last 40 years of his extraordinarily
productive life.

There will be four principal sessions at the symposium,
