Detailed comparison of the PSF wings with the models is an ongoing effort.

I've made a preliminary comparison of an HRC-S observation of Capella (no gratings), with:

. a raytrace based on the high fidelty SAOSAC optics model, using MARX 3.0 as the detector model . a raytrace based on MARX 3.0 (optics and detector)

Capella has a very small hydrogen column (N_HI = 1.8(+0.3,-0.1) x 10^{18} cm^2 (Linsky et al, Ap. J., 402, 694), so there will be no problem with an X-ray dust halo. The spectrum is pretty soft, though, predominantly <= 1 keV.

It appears that in this case, the MARX 3.0 simulation significantly underpredicts the Capella data beyond a few arcsec.
