psextract with a different background file

The help file says:"

SYNTAX

        psextract events bgevents root aoff bgaoff [gtype] [gspec]
[verbose]"

This implies that one can set the bgaoff parameter. However, when I do a
plist, I get no evidence that bgaoff exists:

cfa261-268: plist psextract

Parameters for /home/emk/cxcds_param/psextract.par

        events =
acism00651N000_evt2_clean_GainCorr_norand_flt1.fits[sky=region(cntr.reg)]
Source events specification
      bgevents = aciss_C_s3_bg_evt_191000.fits[sky=region(B1a.reg)]
Background events specification
          root = cntr_maximbk Root name for output files
          aoff =
/data/emk/raq/obs651/ACIS_FULL/out/acism00651_001N000_aoff1.fits Aspect
offsets file
        (ptype = pi) pha or pi
        (gtype = NUM_CTS) Spectrum grouping type (NONE, BIN,
SNR, NUM_BINS, NUM_CTS, or ADAPTIVE)
        (gspec = 25) Spectrum grouping specs
(NONE,1:1024:10,etc)
      (verbose = 5) Debug Level(0-5)
         (mode = h)

Then, when I run it, I get messages saying there are missing columns:

cfa261-270: rm psextract_cntr_maximbk.log
rm: remove psextract_cntr_maximbk.log (yes/no)? y
cfa261-271: psextract > psextract_cntr_maximbk.log
expr: non-numeric argument
 dmextract: processing input file
acism00651N000_evt2_clean_GainCorr_norand_flt1.fits[sky=region(cntr.reg)]
extraction on NUM_CTS
# 15170: dmextract: dmextract: No column NUM_CTS in block EVENTS
 : Error 0
# 15170: dmextract (1) is: exit_upon_error->NULL
 dmextract: processing input file

 : Error 0
# 15181: dmextract (1) is: exit_upon_error->NULL
pquery: invalid enumerated value : type

Then I try again with the bgevents file the same as the events file,
and it says:

cfa261-276: psextract
********* ERROR: Using same events files and different AOFF files for
source and background
cfa261-277: plist psextract bgaoff

Parameters for /home/emk/cxcds_param/psextract.par

        events =
acism00651N000_evt2_clean_GainCorr_norand_flt1.fits[sky=region(cntr.reg)]
Source events specification
      bgevents =
acism00651N000_evt2_clean_GainCorr_norand_flt1.fits[sky=region(B1a.reg)]
Background events specification
          root = foo Root name for output files
          aoff =
/data/emk/raq/obs651/ACIS_FULL/out/acism00651_001N000_aoff1.fits Aspect
offsets file
        (ptype = pi) pha or pi
        (gtype = NUM_CTS) Spectrum grouping type (NONE, BIN,

        (gspec = 25) Spectrum grouping specs
(NONE,1:1024:10,etc)
      (verbose = 5) Debug Level(0-5)
         (mode = h)

So it seems to think it has more than one aoff file, but I never gave it
more than one!

Any suggestions?
