Information regarding CIAO and REDHAT 7.0
-----------------------------------------
We are currently looking into supporting Redhat 7.0 however in
the mean time we have had some inital success in running ciao 2.1
(for linux) on redhat 7.0.
What you MUST do to get most of the system running is apply a
patch to your glibc 2.2 library. The Redhat release had a bug
in this file which caused some programs to core dump when run.
This fix is available from Redhat by downloading the following
file (depending on your need):
i686:
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.0/i686/glibc-2.2-5.i686.rpm
i386:
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.0/i386/glibc-2.2-5.i386.rpm
More than likely you only need the first file for the i686
machine.
You can apply the patch then by logging in as root and running
the command:
rpm -Fvh [filename]
This will update your glibc library and should help running any
other programs compiled under glibc 2.1.
The other known problems is some of the Tcl/TK applications
(firstlook) are compiled against Tcl/Tk 8.0. This is not part
of the Redhat 7 distribution. You will need to download this
also.
Ciao 2.1 has not been tested on RedHat 7.0 yet so we cannot
promise results.
Please note that the glibc problem has been fixed in Redhat 7.1.
