Dear Chandra Users,
we recently placed the xspec model ACISABS
on the CXC Contributed Software Page.
ACISABS is a first attempt at correcting
for the absorption caused by molecular contamination
of the ACIS optical blocking filters. The user needs
to supply the number of days between Chandra launch
and observation. The present version of ACISABS is
to be used for the analysis of bare ACIS I and ACIS S data.
ACISABS requires the standard qe file vN0003 instead of
the optional vN0004 file be used in mkarf.
As additional calibration data are obtained by the CXC and
the composition of the contaminant becomes better constrained
we plan to provide revised versions of this model.

To obtain the xspec model ACISABS and the installation intructions go to:
http://www.astro.psu.edu/users/chartas/xcontdir/xcont.html

Please let me know if you encounter any problems
or have any suggestions regarding this xspec model.

cheers,
George Chartas
