Hello, to the Chandra Users group:
The CXC CalDB Manager has discovered an error in the ACIS branch index
file of CalDB 3.3.0 (release 18 Dec 2006 with CIAO 3.4). The error
prevents users who want to use the tool "acis_fef_lookup" from selecting
the -120C ACIS CTI-corrected FEF_PHA file used in "mkrmf," when using
data from observations reprocessed with CIAO 3.4 or DS 7.6.10 (or later
versions).
The error affects users who employ the CIAO tool "mkwarf", or
user-contributed scripts such as "acisspec" and "psextract", but again
only for observation data processed or reprocessed since the
installation of DS7.6.10 in standard data processing (09 January 2007),
or reprocessed using CIAO 3.4 since its release on 18 December 2006.
A small patch file to correct this error is now available at the CXC
CIAO CALDB downloads page at
http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/download/caldb.html#patch
with instructions available at
http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/index.html.
The patch is designated CalDB 3.3.0.1, is very quick and easy to
install.
See the CalDB 3.3.0.1 patch release notes at
http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/Release_notes/CALDB_v3.3.0.1.html
for further information. Additionally you may view the relevant user
documentation pages at
The relevant CIAO threads have been updated to warn users about this
problem as well.
These web pages will soon be available on our mirror site at
http://ledas-cxc.star.le.ac.uk/caldb.
I apologize for this error, and hope to minimize any difficulties by
providing this patch release.
