Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5: slowness with NFS-mounted disks

Dear chandra-users,

In February 2008, an email was sent to chandra-users alerting users to issues
with CIAO on Mac 10.5 (Leopard):

The CXC has investigated this problem, and found that it affects both versions
10.5 and 10.4 (Tiger) of Mac OS X.

FITS table file writing through the CXC Data Model slows by a significant
factor on these machines when the data is accessed via a networked file system
(NFS) mount. This issue does not affect Solaris or Linux platforms.
