Hello Chandra Users,

CIAO 4.1.1 users may now download the latest CalDB4 release,
versioned Chandra CalDB 4.1.1 from the CXC at

http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/downloads/index.html

CalDB 4.1.1 includes the new HRMA Axial Effective Area (AXEFFA) and an
incumbent upgrade to the HETG +/-first-order grating efficiencies
(GREFF) which maintains the on-orbit HEG/MEG cross-calibration with the
new HRMA AXEFFA. The new HRMA AXEFFA was generated using improved ground
and on-orbit ray-trace models and an updated method of weighting ground
calibration data.

A result of the change is an improvement in high-temperature cluster
modeling with the HRMA/ACIS-S and HRMA/ACIS-I configurations, with
derived plasma temperatures more consistent between these two internal
configurations, and better cross-calibration with the XMM telescope as
well.

Additionally, the addition of the new HRMA and GREFF files will allow
CIAO 4.1.1 users to generate the same ARFs and GARFs as are now
installed in the Chandra Cycle 11 Proposal Toolkit, which was just
released/patched in CIAO 4.1.1 on 15 January 2009.

Note to CIAO 3.4 users: An upgrade for the CIAO 3.4 CalDB (version
3.5.2) will be released in a few days, with the HRMA AXEFFA and HETG
GREFF upgrades presented above. CIAO 3.4 *cannot* use CalDB 4.1.1. Also,
CIAO 3.4 does not include the Chandra Cycle 11 Proposal Toolkit.
