Dear Chandra Users,

This is a long overdue announcement of PVM_XSTAR, a software tool
which manages parallel execution of XSTAR jobs on independent sets
of parameters.

XSTAR is a computer code for calculating the physical conditions
and emission spectra of photoionized gases (Kallman & Bautista 2001).
It may be used as either a standalone application or in the form of
analytic models--such as warmabs--within spectral modeling packages
like ISIS, XSPEC, or Sherpa.

With pvm_xstar one can perform large-scale XSTAR simulations,
consisting of thousands or more serial XSTAR jobs, in the time
it has previously taken to compute only a handful of such models.

The software and documentation are available online at

        http://space.mit.edu/cxc/pvm_xstar/

and an arXiv reference to the ADASS 2008 paper is available at

        http://arxiv.org/abs/0901.1582

Regards,
Mike Noble
