Hello chandra-users,

David Pooley (UW Madison) has sent us a workaround that allows him to run CIAO
4.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard):

"In ${ASCDS_INSTALL}/ots/lib I deleted the symlink libxml2.2.dylib (which
pointed to libxml2.2.6.31.dylib in the same directory), and then created one
to /usr/lib/libxml2.2.dylib. I.e.,

cd ${ASCDS_INSTALL}/ots/lib
rm libxml2.2.dylib
ln -s /usr/lib/libxml2.2.dylib

After doing this, I was able to build the ahelp index, and all the smoke tests
completely successfully. I loaded a spectrum into sherpa and was able to
plot_data()."

This information will be add to the CIAO website shortly. We hope it's useful
to those users who wish to try running CIAO on this platform.

~ Hello chandra-users,
~
~ CIAO 4.1.2 is not officially supported on the Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
~ platform which was released on 28 August 2009.
~
~ Users have reported problems with ChIPS plotting, GUI applications, and the
~ command-line help system (ahelp). While the CIAO tools appear to run
~ correctly, they have not yet been tested.
~
~ The CIAO website [http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/] will be updated as we learn
~ more about CIAO's compatibility with OS X 10.6.
