Hello, Chandra users,
The latest upgrade to the Chandra CalDB, version 4.3.0 (for use with
CIAO 4.2) has just been released.
For an automated installation of this upgrade, see the CIAO downloads
web page, at http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/download/ and follow the
instructions there. The script for now only does the FULL CalDB 4.3.0
installation, which takes some time due to the ACIS T_GAIN library.
Alternatively, see the CalDB downloads web page at

for *manual* download and installation instructions.
***NOTE: If you have already installed CIAO 4.2 and CalDB 4.2.x, the
manual upgrade-only patch in "TABLE 2" has been provided, for a quicker
upgrade installation.*** Manual full-download instructions for CalDB
4.3.0 are also included.
Note also that the HRC-I background events files are packaged
separately, just as the ACIS BKGRND blank sky files are tarred up
separately from the "main" and "upgrade" tar balls. Hence there is an
extra manual step to download and unpack the "hrc_bkgrnd_4.3.0.tar.gz"
tar file included in the instructions linked above.
RELEASE NOTES:
The 4.2.1 upgrade includes the following:
- ACIS EPOCH 41 T_GAIN files (Feb 01-Apr 30, 2010).
- HRC-I SAMP-based GMAP (gain file) for observations taken
since 2009-09-24T00:00:00.
- HRC-I stowed background events files for improved fluxed maps.
- HRC-I background spectrum files for optimal PI-filtering of
background events.
