Hello chandra-users,

The CIAO team is pleased to announce the 04 April 2011 release of the
CIAO contributed science tarfile. The new tarfile may be download via
ciao-install (http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/download/) or from the CIAO
Contributed Scripts Page (http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/download/scripts/).

The changes in this release are:

o) chandra_repro
     http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/ahelp/chandra_repro.html

     * workaround added for the "Incorrect GTIs when time-filtering
grating data with dmcopy opt=all" bug. The GTIs are calculated correctly
for grating data with this workaround.

     * bug fix: EDSER sub-pixel algorithm cannot be applied to
continuous-clocking mode data; the script uses pix_adj=none in this case.

     * script prints the version number when verbosity is greater than 0.

o) check_ciao_version
     http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/ahelp/check_ciao_version.html

    * NEW! Check that your CIAO and CALDB installations are up to date.

o) combine_spectra
     http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/ahelp/combine_spectra.html

     * temporary files are written to the 'outroot' directory (instead
of the working directory) before being moved to /tmp.

     * script prints the version number when verbosity is greater than 0.

o) specextract
     http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/ahelp/specextract.html

     * new parameter, bkgresp, to determine whether a background ARF and
RMF should be created. Set to "no" to create just a background spectrum
(e.g. if the background will be subtracted in analysis).

     * the user is prompted for the bkgfile parameter (previously it was
hidden).

     * if the input regions are not in physical coordinates, the tool
dmmakereg is run to convert them for input to arfcorr. This only applies
when the parameters "correct=yes" and "weight=no".

     * an ObsID header keyword is no longer required in the background
file. This resolves problems when using the blank-sky background files,
for instance. (The ObsID keyword is required in the source and aspect
solution file input only when stacks of each are entered and must be
matched.)

     * if the input file does not have a TDET column, the ARF file is
created with binwmap="det=8" instead of "tdet=8".

     * aspect files are matched to the source and background files by
time intervals, not ObsID.

     * script prints the version number when verbosity is greater than 0.

o) acis_bkgrnd_lookup, acis_fef_lookup, get_sky_limits, & hrc_bkgrnd_lookup

     * script prints the version number when verbosity is greater than 0.
