Dear CIAO users,
This is a repeat of information presented in last week's Chandra
Electronic Announcement [1].
This is a heads-up email to inform you that the next CIAO release (CIAO
4.4 currently scheduled for December 2011) will *NOT INCLUDE SOLARIS
BINARIES* marking the end of our support for the following platform:
* Solaris 10 (SunOS 5.10)
We hope that informing you in advance will help you in planning a
possible operating system change or hardware purchase.
We are also evaluating discontinuing support for Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)
on the same time frame to concentrate our efforts on the newest Mac OS
releases. Please let us know via the Helpdesk [2] if Mac OS 10.5
(Leopard) is still your only option for your CIAO data analysis.
For your information we are also working on supporting CIAO for the new
MAC OS-X 10.7 (Lion) operating system which Apple released in July 2011.
The full list of platforms currently planned for CIAO4.4 is therefore:
* Linux 32 bit and 64 bit:
supporting most platforms including CentOS, Fedora, Debian, Ubuntu
* Mac OS 32 bit and 64 bits:
10.5 (Leopard) Intel (*possibly*),
10.6 (Snow Leopard),
10.7 (Lion)
