AHELP for CIAO 4.4

slang

Context: scripting

Synopsis

The S-Lang programing language

Description

S-Lang is a powerful scripting language which can be used to write macros or manipulate data. Although S-Lang does not exist as a separate application, it is distributed with a program called slsh ("slang-shell") that embeds the interpreter and allows one to execute S-Lang scripts or use S-Lang at an interactive prompt. See the S-Lang home page for more information.

Removal of S-Lang Support

The CXC no longer supports the S-Lang scripting language as of CIAO 4.3. As a consequence, the S-Lang versions of the CIAO modules (paramio, stackio, etc.) and the S-Lang interfaces to ChIPS and Sherpa have been removed. Those applications can no longer be imported as a S-Lang module, either.

Users may contact the CXC HelpDesk for assistance in transitioning to Python.
