System Requirements

CIAO is supported on a number of operating systems, which are listed on the Platform Support page. Certain system requirements are necessary to successfully install and run CIAO.

Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8)

Memory and Disk Space

Chandra data files are large, which implies that certain processing and analysis operations will work more efficiently when they have access to large amounts of RAM. We recommend a minimum of 500Mb main memory and disk space on the order of 1-2 GB.

X11R6

X11, the X window system.

OpenGL

ChIPS requires OpenGL, an interface for system graphics. Solaris users may not have this installed by default.

Motif 2.0.1

Solaris users should have Motif installed by default.

gtar

The GNU tar package. Solaris users must use GNU tar (usually aliased to "gtar") to unpack the tarfiles. If native Solaris tar is used, some of the test filenames will be truncated.

Fedora Core 4

Mac users also need to make sure that xrdb, the X server resource database utility, is in their path. This program is usually located in the /usr/X11R6/bin directory.
