Matching CIAO and CALDB VersionsCIAO 4.0 requires CALDB 3.4.0 or higher to operate properly. Are your versions mismatched? Time to update CIAO and CALDB! This is the sixth in a series of workshops started in 2001 aimed at helping users to work with the Chandra Interactive Analysis of Observations (CIAO) software. The 6th Chandra/CIAO Workshop will be held 20-22 October 2008 at the Chandra X-ray Center in Cambridge, MA (USA). Registration is now open! 30 May 2008 Several of the CIAO contributed scripts were updated to replace the Unix "head" and "tail" commands with the CIAO tools "dmkeypar" and "pget". A user reported script failure on Mac OS X 10.4 Intel due to incompatible syntax. 16 Apr 2008 CIAO has been patched to CIAO 4.0.2. The CIAO 4.0.2 patch enables CIAO to run on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Intel. The patch is optional for 10.4 (Tiger) Intel machines. The patch should not be applied to Linux, Solaris, or Mac PowerPC installations of CIAO. Ahelp for CIAO 4.0To learn how to use the help system for CIAO (ahelp), say: unix% ahelp The help documents are accessed by subject (a single word, case insensitive), so to get help on the tool dmextract try unix% ahelp dmextract and to search on a word use about (it is an alias to ahelp -k) which will bring up a list of all matching documents or - if there is only one match - display that document. Here we look for any document on "stacks":

Use "ahelp subject" ("ahelp context subject" for non-unique cases) e.g.:

In general you will be now be able to say "ahelp <subject>" to read the help for that document. However, if the same subject matches different contexts, you have to say "ahelp <context> <subject>" as described at the end of the list of matches ("ahelp tools stk_where"). Read the ahelp document for more information on the ahelp system, such as reading parts of the document - e.g. only the examples or the parameter list. |
