Leon Van Speybroeck Wins Rossi Prize

This is the email message to tell Chandra team members that Leon Van Speybroeck had won the Rossi prize. See Figure 4.

I am very happy to announce that Dr. Leon Van Speybroeck was awarded the Rossi Prize of the High Energy Astrophysics Division of the AAS today. The prize is in recognition of Leon's long involvement with X-ray optics, culminating in the outstanding success of the X-ray telescope flown on the Chandra Observatory.

Leon has been a member of the CfA's High Energy Astrophysics Division since it was founded in July of 1973. He pioneered the use of grazing incidence optics for X-ray astronomy, and designed and built the telescope for the Einstein Observatory, the first X-ray telescope for non-solar observations. Leon is the Telescope Scientist for Chandra, and devoted about 25 years to the design, development, testing, calibration, and flight of the world's most exquisite X-ray telescope.

I am delighted in the recognition that this award brings to Leon.
