AHELP for CIAO 4.9 Sherpa v1

save_table

Context: saving

Synopsis

Save a Sherpa data set to a FITS or ASCII file.

Syntax

save_table( [id,] filename )

Description

The save_table command saves a dataset to a FITS or column-based ASCII file. DM ASCII syntax is used to indicate that the output should be ASCII ("ahelp dmascii"). This command has no return value.

  • id - the id of the dataset to use; if not given, uses the default dataset id (id=1 by default, see "ahelp get_default_id")
  • filename - the output filename, including path

There are several other save commands available: save_image and save_pha are recommended for those datatypes, while save_data allows the user to specify additional output options when saving to an ASCII file (column names, comment character, and separator).

Example 1

sherpa> save_table("data.fits")

Dataset 1 is saved to a FITS file named "data.fits".

Example 2

sherpa> save_table(2, "output.dat[opt kernel=text/simple]")

The DM ASCII syntax is used with save_table to write dataset 2 to a text file.
