Eng: - All OK SOT/Radiation: - ACE solar protons are very low (< 100). Solar activity is expected to be very low to low due to the return of old Region 1045 (N24, L242) and two newly numbered regions 1052 and 1053. - Solar Activity Forecast: - Geophysical Activity Forecast: Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be quiet to unsettled on day one (02 March) due to the coronal hole mentioned above. Activity is expected to be at quiet levels on days two and three (03 - 04 March) as the coronal hole effects subside. DATA: - Joy has uncovered a problem with the way ACIS observations are now being scheduled. Her e-mail discussing the problem is given below: I am reporting a problem with the way ACIS observations are being scheduled for the first observation out of the rad zone. With the new OFLS scheduling software, we now maneuver to the first target out of the rad zone during the CTI (to maximize the amount of CTI time available). The result is that the bias file for the first observation (assuming it is ACIS) is taken at the position of the target and can potentially be contaminated by strong sources. When a region of the bias file has a strong source superposed on it, the bias adu values are elevated and the pixels are marked with a bad status. These bad status pixels will be filtered out of Level 2 event data. Obsid 10964 is the first one I noticed. The source is very piled up in the event data. CDO will allow the observer to determine if the science goals were compromised. I believe it is possible that V&V missed some other bias maps corrupted by sources because we only do a visual examination of the bias files. In fact, there is the potential of losing science data for each observation first out of the rad zone under the current scheduling method. There have been many positive results from the new scheduling OFLS software. This is just an unforseen disadvantage. I have informed acisdude, cdo, and mp.
