Shift L132. Start at 336:13:00 GMT = 08:00am 02 Dec EST End 12:00 noon 02 Dec SOT Lead DAS (Times will be given in GMT on day 336. In general times are rough, not precise.) PLAN Continue running under NOV2899e. Should have finished OBSID 541, ACIS-I of the cluster V1416+446. Will perform two CTI measurements, then set focal plane temperature to -115 degC prior to entering radiation belts. Next Comms: 336:15:50 to 17:20 337:00:10 to 01:15 337:05:00 to 06:45 337:14:30 to 15:15 337:23:15 to 01:20 EVENTS Status at LOS, 336:09:29, was as follows: PCAD MODE = NPNT CONTROL LAW FLAG = NPNT Stars: = 5 FIDS = 3 RA = 214.169 deg DEC = 44.779 deg ROLL = 32.377 deg Format = 2 OBSID = 541 (V1416+4446) SIM FA = -535 SIM TSC = 91711 (ACIS -I) HETG = OUT (81.0 deg) LETG = OUT (79.1 deg) HRC-I HV is ON EPHIN: A-Leak = 0.3080 mu-a B-Leak = 0.0480 mu-a 13:45 Descending through 82426 km. 15:50 AOS status at AOS, 336:15:52, was as follows: PCAD MODE = NPNT CONTROL LAW FLAG = NPNT Stars: = 5 FIDS = 0 RA = 240.029 deg DEC = 70.006 deg ROLL = 7.579 deg Format = 2 OBSID = 62289 (ACIS CTI measurement) SIM FA = -535 SIM TSC = -99616 (HRC-S) HETG = OUT (81.0 deg) LETG = OUT (79.1 deg) HRC-I HV is ON EPHIN: A-Leak = 0.3600 mu-a B-Leak = 0.0560 mu-a 15:53 Descending through 67945 km. 17:20 LOS Status same as at AOS. NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS From the solar-terrestrial activity web page: "Forecast The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to unsettled on December 2-3. Unsettled to minor storm is expected for December 4-9 due to a large coronal hole, isolated major storm intervals are possible." The ACE 130-214 keV proton fluxes continue about 50 times higher than minimum background, at about 2000 per (cm^2 sec MeV Ster), but about another factor of 30 below where we would worry about stopping the load as soon as possible. At AOS, ACIS measuring CTI in OBSID 62289. Focal plane -109.0 deg C. Cold radiator -120.7 deg C. SIM has translated to HRC-S so ACIS is safe for next belt passage. Our integrated proton fluence for the last orbit was 3.24 x 10^8, per (cm^2 Mev Ster). About 12 of the 48 hours above 70,000 km were spent with HRC at the aim point. Our Budget (ref: email from Steve O'Dell, Fri, 19 Nov 1999 17:27:58), allows a fluence of 5x10^10 per year, suballocated to 10 discrete events per year, and with a further margin of 2.5. If we consider the above number as a steady state, then we would allow 5x10^10 per year/138 orbits per year = 3.6x10^8 (with no further margin, and without counting the ten discrete events). So we need to continue to monitor this fluence number and use some judgement about how the total dose is building up and what exposure we should be allowing for ACIS at the aim point. From the 9am status meeting: 4 dumps in the last 24 hours, 3 successful, all data recovered. Products for DEC0599 load are out for review, review telecon at 2pm today, 888-394-8594, pass code 19317#. Flight directors CCB meeting today is cancelled. Mission Planning / OFLS meeting at 3pm, Phone: 1-800-857-6554 Pass Code: 55366 Installation of the new SI safing patches will be next Monday, Dec 13. This will start approximately 2:20pm, for up to 7 hours. SI teams should be prepared to provide support -- we will have full real time comm coverage. The installation will be contingent on a successful operations-walkthru readiness meeting to be scheduled next Wed or Thurs. In a side discussion after the 9am meeting, Eric Martin expressed an opinion that the best implementation of the "dead-man-switch" to activate SCS 107 in the (unlikely) event of running out of SCS loads on-board, is to be able to load a small ATS in SCS slot 255. This may require an ECR to the OFLS to allow ATS loads to be created for arbitrary slot numbers. Quick look results: Following results look good: OBSIDs 243,255,267,279,291 on M31 with HRC-I; OBSID 84 on CAL83 with ACIS-S in CC mode. OBSID 80 on RXJ0019.8+2156 with ACIS-S in CC mode. OBSID 130 on PSR B0656+14 with HRC-S/LETG and older observations of OBSID 242 on SagA with ACIS-I OBSID 4 on Trapezium with ACIS-S/HETG. We are missing results on recent observations of OBSID 100 on X0614+091 with HRC-S/LETG OBSID 77 on CAL83 with HRC-S/LETG OBSID 341 on NGC526a with ACIS-S ------------------------------------------------------- Dan Schwartz, MS #3 das@head-cfa.harvard.edu phone: (617)495-7232 FAX: (617)495-7356 cell phone: (617)512-5627 pager: 800-759-8352 PIN 1636502 or e-mail 1636502@skytel.com -------------------------------------------------------
