To: sot_shift@head-cfa.harvard.edu Subject: HRC activities day 205 GMT Mime-Version: 1.0 Date: Sun, 25 Jul 1999 01:21:23 -0400 From: Steve Murray --------------------- On day 205 GMT the HRC was turned on and an internal pulser test was run to verify the performance of the electronics. Both HRC-I and HRC-S were activated and tested. The results for HRC-I were essentially identical to the tests run at TRW during the ISIM integration (about two years ago) which are also the same as for the SOH and POP tests run at KSC. For HRC-S the results were also very close to the earlier baseline tests, but because the puler amplitude for HRC-S is significantly lower than for HRC-I there is more noise and dispersion in the data. HRC has requested that we repeat the HRC-S test with a higher pulser setting (which we expect to do in a day). The tests show that all of the HRC electronics are functioning and that the Crossed Grid Charge Detector has survived the launch on both detectors. I am completely satisfied that there has been no significant change in either detector from the pre-launch condition. The next steps in activation of HRC are to turn on our anti-coincidence shield (probably on day 207) and then to open the housing door (we will try to move that ahead if possible). About 24 hours after the door is opened we will turn on the MCP High Voltage and collect calibration and background data. On day 206 there were no planned HRC ativities. The detector temperatures are being monitored and are following the expected trend that was observed during the TRW Thermal Vacuum test. All values are within range and look very much as expected. _______________________________________________________________________________ Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory__| phone: (617) 495-7205 High Energy Astrophysics Division __| fax: (617) 495-7356 60 Garden Street, MS-2 __| email: ssm@head-cfa.harvard.edu Cambridge, MA 02138 __| http://hea-www.harvard.edu/~ssm/HomePage.html ___________________________|___________________________________________________
