To:sot_shift from: Dan Schwartz date: 5 Sep 99, 04:00am EDT Subject: SOT shift report, Shift H45 -------- See http://asc.harvard.edu/acis/SOT_reports/sot-shift.html, or /proj/ascwww/AXAF/extra/science/htdocs/acis/SOT_reports/Sep_04_1999_H45.txt. Shift H45. Start at 248:02:00 GMT = 10:00pm 05 Sep EDT End 04:00am 06 Sep SOT Lead DAS Spac/Aspect FOT/Sci liason HRC SSM,JHC,GM,MJ, ACIS (Times will be given in GMT on day 248. In general times are rough, not precise.) PLAN Run under load P11 Finish HRC-S focus plates measurements. Continue running ACIS event histograms EVENTS Start shift in comm. Running OBSID 62436, format 1. Pointing at LMC X-1, 5 stars and 3 fid lights. 02:14 Move HRC-S focus to -699. 02:33 Move HRC-S focus to -867 02:50 Move HRC-S focus to -950 03:08 Move HRC-S focus to -1034 03:27 Move HRC-S focus to -1201 03:46 Move HRC-S focus to -1368 On HRC EGSE, best focus looks between -950 and -1034 steps. -950 is probably slightly in front of focus, and this is a better place to be for overall field performance. 04:04 Move HRC-S focus to -950. This will be the position for the remainder of HRC-S observations in P11. 04:15 LOS. next comm planned for GMT 10:30 (6:30am EDT). NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS The SOT lead should take a look at the tlmCmd window on the ACIS machine, to verify that the event histograms are running. You should see dataTeEvHist scrolling up, i.e., if we are in comm. Call Paul Plucinsky if this isn't happening. HRC has moved to the best estimate of focus based on looking at the LMC X-1 image size in real time on the EGSE. This is at -950 motor steps. A CAP 352A should be executed to offset for the LETG measurements (we hear they want to be 100 microns in front of focus, ie at algebraically larger motor steps). Then, before moving back to ACIS-I observation of Eta Carinae, OBSID 50, after the radiation belt passage ending 249L20:33,we must run CAP 352A to return to the best ACIS-I focus position, -536 motor steps. Note that the single OBSID, 62436, contains all the HRC-S data from eight different focus positions during the time 248:01:23 to 04:15, plus a return to -950 motor steps at 04:04. ------------------------------------------------------- Dan Schwartz, MS #3 das@head-cfa.harvard.edu phone: (617)495-7232 FAX: (617)495-7356 cell phone: (617)512-5627 pager: 800-759-8352 PIN 1636502 or e-mail 1636502@skytel.com -------------------------------------------------------
