SOT Shift Report Shift H46 Duration: 05 Sep 1999 23:00 EDT - 06 Sep 1999 08:30 EDT 06 Sep 1999 03:00 GMT - 06 Sep 1999 12:30 GMT SOT Lead: MDF Spacecraft/Aspect: FOT/Science Liason: HRC: SSM,GA,JHC ACIS: HETG: LETG: BB, PP (briefly) ======================================== Status: ------- HRC in process of observing Capella with LETG (OBSID 62435) Plan ---- Finish observation of Capella at 249:10:00. Safe instruments for Radiation Zone entry (occurs at ~ 249:10:30). Move SIM to a focus position less than 538 via real-time commanding, so that loaded SIM move to ACIS I will be correct re: hysteresis error. Prepare for LETG retraction. Events ------ 249:03:30 Switch to Goldstone. Brief LOS during change. 249:07:50 Ephin rates showed substantial rise. HRC count rates became noisy at about the same time. 249:09:46 HRC high voltage rampdown to 1/2 level for maneuver. 249:09:49 Commanded SIM focus to -505. 249:09:51 Maneuvering. Only the three FIDs in ACA display. NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS --------------------- - Brief flurry of activity when it was thought that there were far too few counts in the LETG zeroth order image. It turns out that the counts were about right at ~1/8.3 of the baseline image (LETG retracted). This is due to (1) ~30% blockage of the LETG support stucture, (2) ~50% blockage of the gratings themselves, and (3) about 30-40% of the remaining image remains in the 0th order, undispersed. - Noted the "Multiple Stars Suspected" flag in the Image Slot 2 (a FID light) during the long HRC observation. The image looks somewhat distended in the 6x6 window. "Starmap" shows a star very near the box for FID in slot 1, but not 2. Magnitudes look normal.
