In general times are rough, not precise.) PLAN Running under load P13 Diagnose LETG insertion failure Plan ACIS diagnostic operations EVENTS Start Shift in format 1, OBSID 62426. HRC-S is pointed to Capella and taking data, BUT the LETG has NOT been inserted. 17:31 AOS. Early telemetry since TM is on. OBSID still 62426, in format 1. 5 stars 3 fid lights. Lose TM, is intermittent. 17:37 getting TM again. No command lock. 17:43 completed CAP 362, dump of grating parameters. 17:45 start CAP 415, LETG insertion. ~17:55 New OBSID 62422 -- will be used for grating observation of Capella, simultaneous with HST. 17:57 HRC HV is ramped down, we are in NMM for grating insertion. 18:00 Switch to format 4 for the grating operations 18:08 Start LETG grating insertion. 18:23 Back in Format 1 ******* 18:28 HRC-S HV back up, confirm dispersed spectrum. First coordinated HST/CHANDRA observation in History! "And it took some serious work! Congrats to all those who made this work!" [POS] ******* 18:30 Initiate SSR playback 18:32 Start CAP 414. Stop science. Set up for ACIS event histograms in format 1, during OBSID 62422. 19:11 Complete CAP 414 through step 7. Suspend until 21:30 so as not to interfer with coordinated HST observation. 21:36 Resume CAP 414-- Change to Format 2, and to OBSID 62425. 23:12 Change to OBSID 62424, measuring the bias maps to be used in the upcoming event histograms to be obtained in format 1 using OBSID 62423. 23:37 Change to OBSID 62423. Return to Format 1. End of CAP 414 We are still observing Capella with HRC-S and the LETG. We return to normal P13 load operations, at least until next comm at 08:00 (see below) NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS Assigning New OBSIDs for ACIS diagnostics, as follows: 62425 1999Sep12 D. Schwartz ACIS diagnostics, EV post HST run at ~21:30 when we switch to format 2. 62424 1999Sep12 D. Schwartz ACIS diagnostics, EV post HST 62423 1999Sep12 D. Schwartz ACIS diagnostics, 62422 1999Sep12 D. Schwartz Coordinated HST observation On-going diagnosis of LETG issue shows that the MCE had NOT been powered down after the previous grating retraction. WHY?? It was then powered down after the failed attempt at LETG insertion. Plan is for software insertion of LETG via ground CAP, then to monitor whether it successfully turns off the MCE after retraction at 256:04:36. We expect not, (since on board conditions are the same as before) so the plan will be to do that power down turn a real time contact, before the insertion planned for 256:19:15 in the current load. This should be done during the upcoming 08:00 to 11:00 GMT COMM. As an outcome of the 4pm ACIS telecon, we are currently (23:40 GMT) considering 2 possible different interruptions of the P13 load, to occur at the 08:00 comm. One path would be format 2 operations to continue diagnosis of the state of ACIS, returning to Format 1 and continuing the P13 load at 11:00GMT. This will step on the last half of the NGC2516 OBSID 0068, and the LMC X-1 OBSID 1154. Another path would be to initiate an ACIS Bakeout: The latter would imply an extensive change to the following 32 hours of operations. Further detailed information must be forthcoming if that is what is decided. ------------------------------------------------------- Dan Schwartz, MS #3 das@head-cfa.harvard.edu phone: (617)495-7232 FAX: (617)495-7356 cell phone: (617)512-5627 pager: 800-759-8352 PIN 1636502 or e-mail 1636502@skytel.com -------------------------------------------------------
