Two pulses of 155 and 1 second(s) were used to retract the grating. After the 155 second pulse, the A and B side potentiometers read 80.2 and 81.0 degrees respectively, which is consistant with a full retraction. The back EMF ranged between 6.2 and 5.6 volts. No spike was observed in the back EMF, and neither retract limit switch toggled to "RETR". It was decided, based on the potentiometer data and the consistant duration of past HETG retractions, that the grating was retracted to a safe position, and that a further 1 second pulse was advisable to try to get the limit switches to trip. On the 1 second pulse, back EMF of 3.4 V was observed, but the switches and potentiometers did not move. All available data indicates that the grating is in a safe position at or very near the nominal retracted position. The 3.4 V back EMF on the 1 second pulse, and the lack of movement on the pots, indicates that this pulse moved the grating less than the expected .5 degrees; probably the angular motion was somewhere in the range of .2-.3 degrees. This may be due to some stiction in the motor. A meeting is scheduled for 3PM EST Thursday to discuss Sunday's planned real-time HETG insertion." ACE 2 hr fluence is 4e5 vs. threshold 3.6e8.
