SOT shift report 2000-11-27 M494 Start at 2000:332:17:00 GMT = 2000 Nov. 27 12:00pm EDT End 2:30pm EDT See http://asc.harvard.edu/acis/SOT_reports/sot-shift.html, or /proj/ascwww/AXAF/extra/science/htdocs/acis/SOT_reports/Nov_27_2000_M494.txt SOT Lead Mark Freeman Plan: ---- (from Ed's morning report, still valid) We are in the SI safe mode. SCS 107 ran, kicked off by EPHIN. RADMON tripped at 331:19:46. The cause was high fluxes from the first of 6-7 solar CMEs. We plan to resume normal operations tomorrow at ~ 5:30 am EST, although, we may find that fluxes rise above acceptable levels, requiring us to stay in the safe configuration (see note 2). Briefly flirted with the idea of making ACIS CTI measurements, but radiation levels still too high. - At next contact (333:0155 UT, 8:55pm EST), ACIS plans to try to start the CTI measurements. Criteria are that all three of the normal RADMON trip measurements (E1300, P4GM, P41GM) be below HALF of their RADMON trip thresholds to proceed. The plan would be to run CAP 617 to re-enable RADMON, and then run CAP 574A to start the CTI run if this is the case. - At the following contact (333:1000 UT, 5am EST) there will be two loads reviewed and ready to run. The first will be a resumption of science with the Aql X-1 TOO observation, and whatever else can be scheduled, while the second would be a simple maneuver load to put the spacecraft into a safe attitude. With the current attitude, there is a constraint violation upcoming at ~333:1600, so one or the other must be running. There will be a tag-up immediately before the 5am contact to look at the EPHIN rates during the pass and decide whether levels are low enough to resume the science safely (nominal target: all three below ONE THIRD of their respective thresholds). Products for both loads will be available for review this afternoon. 3) Radiation: At the end of contact, the EPHIN rates were below thresholds but hovering near their trip values (see note 1).
