This was interrupted by the shutdown three days ago. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Low energy proton flux is still elevated, but decreasing. There were several M class flares yesterday, some of them associated with weak halo CMEs. Minor solar wind shocks can be expected on August 21 and 22. S/C: Yesterday's ACA Earth limb test #3 chose faint stars to see the effect of proximity to the bright earth direction on limiting magnitude. Three stars, nominally 10.5, 11 & 11.6 mag. were used. At > 5 degrees from the limb, acquisition was marginal as expected. At < 5 degrees from the Earth's limb the background increased and we lost track, consistent with previous tests. To complete the test series, we need to acquire a normal catalogue of stars in hardware mode with gyro hold, then to acquire a normal catalogue of stars in normal pointing mode. We anticipate that we'll be able to operate the ACA as close as 10 degrees from the Earth limb; we'll request a CARD waiver or change when this is verified. We had an EPS current signature flag during the fourth eclipse of the season. This is not a problem; it's caused by sign flipping when the current is near zero. GOT: We couldn't get ASVT up last night. It could impact today's SIM patch testing. We continue to install ONLS 3.9.1 on the third string for testing. DATA: - SOT: There were 18 C and 5 M flares yesterday, with associated impulsive X-ray flux enhancements. Moderate probablility of CME to impact earth within 96 hours. High probability of M and X class flares within the next 48 hours.
