SOT Lead Mark Freeman (Times will be given in GMT on day 241.) PLAN ---- Continue running load AUG2602D. Running obsid 2981, with ACIS-S, looking at the quasar PKS 2215+020. This is potentially one of the most seminal observations done by Chandra, a search for a previously unknown X-ray jet at a redshift 3.5. If successful, it could be a clue to to many more previously unrecognized X-ray jets in currently unidentified ROSAT X-ray sources. This will be followed by obsid 2989, one of the Chandra/ACIS observations of a population of type 2 quasars discovered in the DPOSS. Radiation environment has fairly steadily declined over that past couple of days (ACE EPAM P3 now around 200), so we should be OK for this orbit. Eric Martin forwarded an alert regarding some potentially major flare activity near the NE limb of the sun that bears watching in the upcoming days.
