SOT shift report 2002-12-10 L1237 Written at 2002:344:14:21 UTC = 09:21 am Dec-10-2002 EST End 11:00:00 AM EST SOT Lead: Ed Kellogg PLAN ---- OBSID 3216. NGC 5171 2002:344:07:27, ACIS-S NONE. EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES IN GROUPS: STRIPPING AND STIFLING. Then OBSID 04405, SN 2002HI 2002:344:17:45, ACIS-S NONE Type IIn (narrow emission line) SN 2002HI. Its optical spectra show it is similar to the extremely X-ray luminous SN 1988Z (IAUC 8006), which was observed at Lx=1e41 erg/s at an age of 6.5yr. It is unknown what the early-time (first few weeks to months) Lx of such a SN would be. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is Very low. Significant solar activity yesterday: Solar flare activity was low. There was an M1.1 flare today at 12:26 UTC. It is not yet known if there was a CME associated with this event, because the SOHO images are only available up through 10:42 UTC so far. Further M class flares are likely as long as the current magnetic delta configuration is present. CMEs reported for past two days: December 7-9: No obviously geoeffective CMEs noted.
