SCS 107 was run manually during COMM due to high proton levels! (see note 3) RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Shock wave from the 24-Nov CME passing ACE and registering in the soft proton channels at around 330:21:00 and the SOHO shock monitor at 330:21:21. ACE EPAM P3 rates reached a maximum of ~400,000, but this appears to be a relatively brief event. After the inital high, the ACE rates are hovering around 100,000 +/-. See radiation telecon note 3 below. At this telecon, it was decided that the rates (running ~100,000) would be watched for the next 1.5 hours, and another telecon would be convened at 330:2330GMT. If ACE EPAM P3 rates were below 40,000 and still declining at that time, we would agree to delay any safing action until (at least) the next COMM. If above this value, we would manually run SCS107 to safe the instruments. The ACE rates dipped to the 20,000 range just prior to the 330:2330 telecon. Due to the instablility, it was viewed as beneficial to get an intermediate COMM before the next scheduled one. The OC obtained a COMM at 331:0430. However, during the telecon the rates rose again to 76,000, and based on this instability and the probability that we would likely exceed the ACIS budget even before the new COMM, the decision was made to safe the instrument by running SCS 107 at approx. 331:0000. A brief replan telecon was held after the radiation one. The decision was made to have the replan pick up with OBSID 3565 at 332:0320. Products will be out tomorrow (11/27) for approval before the end of the day.
