Performing simultaneous observations of the globular cluster 47 Tuc with HST and ACIS-S, obsids 2738 and 3387. These are the last of a series of such observations to study the population of cataclysmic variables, millisecond pulsars and low mass X-ray binaries via their spectra and time variability properties. NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS From the 9am status meeting: Three supports over the last day. On the most recent, starting 284:09:30, the ground station stopped tracking at 09:42 due to antenna problems. We expect to catch up on the SSR over the next pass or two, and to start uploading the SCS for OCT1402D. OCT2102 loads are being build with the new AGASC 1.5, and will also use SAUSAGE, the new matlab tool to select stars and build replacement catalogs. Products out Monday, for load review on Tuesday (due to SAO holiday on Monday). SAUSAGE was approved at the Flight Director's CCB yesterday. 1:30pm EDT telecon today to tag up with Lorraine on TRW/west contamination questions and actions. Dial 405 244 5060 pin 1165#. A 9:30 meeting with Keith Patrick this morning covered life limiting items on ACIS. Issues included susceptibility of parts to radiation, thermal control of the PSMC, CTI degradation and thermal control of the ACIS focal plane, and contamination of ACIS. Bill Mayer reported that the known rad soft items were DAC's in the DEA boards, and that they had two 15mil layers of Ta over each chip. Two similar chips in the housekeeping electronics, which perform no critical function to ACIS, have no and one lay of Ta, respectively. So they will be the "canaries" which die first and give an idea of how much longer the DEA chips can be expected to function. The PMSC temperature we are watching is that of the housing. Although internal board temperatures also track the spiking seen at unfavorable attitudes, namely 45 to 60 degrees from the sun, they do not show a large upward trend for their nominal temperature through the mission, so we expect to maintain control against failure. The other issues relate to science performance degradation. Although these could become severe at 15 years in worst case scenarios, we do not expect them to eliminate the capability for Chandra to perform state of the art scientific observations using ACIS.
