RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is Low. We are seeing a slight increase in the ACE flux probably from the April 21 CME.. (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity yesterday: Solar flare activity was high. A total of 6 C and 2 M class events was recorded during the day. (http://www.dxlc.com/solar/) CMEs reported for past two days: April 23: A partial halo CME was observed in LASCO images after the M5.1 flare in region 10338 early in the day. The major part of the ejected material was observed off of the northwest limb. While Earth will be outside of the reaches of the main body of the CME, there is a possibility of a minor impact from the southern CME flank on April 25.(http://www.dxlc.com/solar/, Jan Alvestad) Radiation Measurement Observed Observed/Limit --------------------- -------- -------------- ACE 2hr fluence 8.67E+05 1/415 (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) GOES-10/P2 4-9 MeV protons `P4GM' 7.75E-02 1/1226 (ftp://ftp2.sec.noaa.gov/pub/lists/pchan/G10pchan_5m.txt) GOES-10/P5 40-80 MeV protons `P41GM' 5.85E-03 1/133 (ftp://ftp2.sec.noaa.gov/pub/lists/pchan/G10pchan_5m.txt) *ACIS* Orbital fluence (since perigee) 3.48E+06 1/287 (http://asc.harvard.edu/mta/alerts/current.dat) EPHIN rates (cts/cm^2-s-sr) at last comm. We're meeting tomorrow at noon to finalize plans to calibrate the B gyros. Eric reports that we plan to reduce the ACA temperature 1 deg. Every alternate week, with a week in between to evaluate, until we've gone from the current -10 to -15C. This is to reduce dark current and warm pixels. We're measuring dark current tomorrow, before we start lowering T, and again in 12 weeks. We want an extra comm Monday to start this process. The plan is to be presented to the FDB today. Christine Harbison reports from NG West that they've finished developing the new eclipse patches. They are working on ISATS problems - swapping an HDD, fixing network communications between ISATS and VDS so Rino can monitor. There's a thermal working group meeting at 11:00 to review changes to ACIS limits, operation of EIO at elevated T, and new thruster temperatures to start unloading momentum. GOT/IST: Psicorp & forbin are now operating through the new firewall. DATA:- SOT: GOES x-ray flux: A long duration C class and a short duration M class events today. MEETINGS -------- FDB at 2 pm.
