The Orion Nebula is the best target in the sky for Chandra study of stellar magnetic activity and star formation with extensive multiwavelength support. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is Low. (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity yesterday: Solar flare activity was low. A total of 8 C class flares were recorded during the day. (http://www.dxlc.com/solar/) CMEs reported for past two days: January 10-12: No obviously geoeffective CMEs noted. Next passes 1600, 2150, 0320, 1210 MP: The JAN2003 load is in progress. Its momentum component awaits the outcome of JAN1303 events. S/C The State of Health check was nominal. Last night's MUPS calibration was nominal. There will be an engineering tagup today at 3:00 on 1165. GOT/IST: - DATA:- SOT: GOES x-ray flux: No significant activity today. Yesterday's enhancement did not lead to observable CMEs. MEETINGS -------- - Data ---- On colossus (/dsops/GOT/input), - Jan 13 07:55 2003_012_1403_013_0630_Dump_EM_71087.gz Evaluation of QL data --------------------- Target: SI SOT Eval. ------------------- ---------- ---------- - --------------------- NOTES/ISSUES/PROBLEMS --------------------- 1. We are expecting to return to normal operations with autonomous unloading in the next week, notwithstanding the thruster anomaly. The spacecraft appears to be back to normal. The N-G staff are continuing to analyze the thruster situation to see if we can understand why A1 performed as it did. 2. Irwin Shapiro has announced that he will step down as Director of the Center for Astrophyusics and Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory some time in the next few months, after ~ 20 years' service. A search will be undertaken to find his replacement.
