We are still at OBSID 04373 ORION NEBULA CLUSTER 2003:013:07:52, ACIS-I NONE - AN ULTRADEEP CHANDRA STUDY OF THE ORION NEBULA. The Orion Nebula is the best target in the sky for Chandra study of stellar magnetic activity and star formation with extensive multiwavelength support. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is Low. (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity yesterday: Solar flare activity was low. A total of 8 C class flares were recorded during the day. (http://www.dxlc.com/solar/) CMEs reported for past two days: January 11-13: No obviously geoeffective CMEs noted. S/C: We discussed momentum dumping yesterday, and decided to do one tomorrow from the ground, in the same manner as this past weekend, with a dead man. It will use the A1 thruster and we'll watch it closely. The N-G west coast staff are working on the fault tree for the thruster anomaly. Nancy expects to have a draft out today. We plan to continue the investigation for the next few weeks. We'll have a briefing for the FDB on the upcoming eclipse season this Thursday. The N-G west coast says there are no restrictions on thruster use; just watch it closely in format 4. We decided to do an optimal dump tomorrow at 11 am, using thrusters A1 and A4 about equally; it will be of rather long duration. We'll need to get a CAP for that approved. The A1 initial temperature will be ~ 130 F, not hot like it was for the anomaly. We'll make a contingency CAP to disable the subfunction if we need to terminate the momentum dump.
