RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is Low. We are seeing a slight increase in the ACE flux from increased solar activity in the past few days... (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity: Solar flare activity was high. A total of 2 C, 2 M and 1 X class events was recorded during the day(http://www.dxlc.com/solar/) CMEs reported for past two days: May 26: A partial CME was observed in LASCO C2 images starting at 06:50 UTC. This CME was probably backsided as a long duration C6 event was observed from a region just behind the northeast limb. It is therefore unlikely that the CME will become geoeffective. May 27: A full halo CME was observed in LASCO C3 images starting at 07:42 UTC. This was likely associated with a long duration M1.6 event. The CME could reach Earth on May 29 but may be overtaken by another (larger and faster) CME. Another full halo CME was observed near midnight. This CME was associated with an X1.3 flare and appears to be a fast CME capable of reaching Earth during the first half of May 29. May 28: An X3.9 flare early in the day was likely associated with a large and fast Earth directed CME. S/C: We cooled the ACA CCD yesterday to -15C, so the limit tripped. We also saw the SIM translation motor (3TRMTRAT) trip at 45.5. The gyros are quiet, 140 mA. Today we'll be doing IRU safe mode testing on ASVT. GOT/IST: We tried to install Matlab 6.5 yesterday, but ran into a site license problem, so we reverted to 6.1. We are investigating.
