During the first SIM translation within SCS-107, the stars were lost as typically occurs but were not re-acquired. Because the spacecraft attitude was such that the sun was outside the fine sun-sensor field-of-view, rather than locking onto bright stars Chandra transitioned to normal-sun mode. Recovery from NSM Wednesday evening (Nov 10): This evening the procedure was run to recover from normal-sun mode to normal-point mode (tracking stars at a known attitude). Commanding for the recovery started at ~2004:316:01:20 UT and the procedure was completed by ~02:50. The procedure ran nominally. A maneuver only schedule (NOV1104B) to take Chandra to a thermally preferable attitude was uplinked. The maneuver completed at 316:0457. Replan load NOV1204C: A replan load (NOV1204C) was prepared and uplinked at the 317:0345-0445 COMM. The first segment of that load contained two maneuvers to achieve better attitude. These were completed at 317:0600. The first science observation of the load was to begin at 317:1400 (in a different load segment). Radiation telecon Friday Nov 12 at 7:00am EST: Decision was made NOT to start science observations as planned in NOV1204C. This was due to a combination of high EPHIN rates (P4GM = 120) and ongoing high solar radiation levels. A new replan load will be prepared which will start observations (with the Chandra deep field) sometime after tonight's pass (318:0215-0315). A radiation telecon will be held during the pass for a GO/NOGO decision on load restart. 3-day Solar-Geophysical Forecast issued Nov 11 at 22:00 UTC Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be low to moderate. Isolated M-class flares are still possible from Region 696 before it rotates around the west limb on 13 November. Low solar activity levels are expected on 14 November. Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to range from quiet to severe storm levels. Further transient material from the CME activity on 09 - 10 November may produce active to major storm periods on 12 November, and isolated severe conditions are possible at high latitudes. A return to a more stable geomagnetic field is expected on 13 an 14 November. Occasional active periods are expected on the 13th with predominantly quiet to unsettled levels on the 14th. The greater than 10 MeV proton event that has been in progress since 07 November is expected to end by 13 November. The fall-thru to NSM was the result of the normal logic flow in the OBC. - This can be avoided by re-enabling ACA auto-restart in SCS-107, but we need to assess the pros and cons of doing this. - A technical issue will be opened on this, and discussions regarding SCS-107 mods will be addressed in this forum.
