SOT shift report 2005-08-24 L2225 File created at 2005:236:13:23 UTC = 09:23 AM Aug-24-2005 EDT End 11:00:00 AM EDT SOT Lead: Ed Kellogg PLAN ---- No load. Awaiting uplink of a new load to be decided this afternoon based on radiation environment. RADIATION SUMMARY ----------------- Solar soft proton flux is very high but falling. (http://www.srl.caltech.edu/ACE/ASC/) Significant solar activity: The solar flare activity level was moderate. A total of 6 C and 1 M class events was recorded yesterday. A region with a large loop system located behind the northeast limb was the source of 2 long duration C class events during the first half of the day yesterday. Another long duration M class event yesterday, after two the previous day. Two long duration C events today at ~0600 and ~1000 UTC. CMEs reported for past two days: August 22: A complex CME event A large CME was observed over the southwest limb following the major LDE event during the afternoon. Extensions over the eastern hemisphere were much weaker, however, it is still likely that Earth will receive some effects even from this CME. August 23: At least a partial halo CME was observed after the M2 LDE in region S583 during the afternoon.
