SOT Shift Report 2005-01-18 Duration: 18 Jan 2005 08:30 EST - 18 Jan 2005 09:30 EST 18 Jan 2005 13:30 GMT - 18 Jan 2005 14:30 GMT SOT Lead: Tom Aldcroft ======================================== Plan ---- No mission load running. Eclipse load to be worked today. Events ------ No comm this shift. Notes from 9am meeting ---------------------- Ops: In Radiation Zone NO Current SI Grating NONE Observation ID None, Finished 59846 Target None, Finished Altitude 119.2 kkm Desc Radmon Disable 365/23:59z Next Radiation Zone Event not available yet. MP: - Maneuver load JAN1805A was approved and run yesterday - As a result of the radiation tagup, a non-science load will be developed to handle the upcoming eclipse and leave the spacecraft at a desirable attitude. Two obsids need to be done this week but they are of short during (total ~15 ksec) so scheduling will not be a problem. Radiation: - All radation rates (ACE, GOES, EPHIN) continue to be very high following the recent flares from region 720. The hardest proton channels have turned over for the moment and are declining but the GOES P2 (EPHIN P4GM analog) is still flat and ~6 times above the RADMON trip limit. The CME from the long duration X3 flare is expected to arrive between now and 12:00 UT on the 19th. - Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to remain at high to very high levels. Region 720 could produce yet another major solar event. - Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to continue at major to severe storm levels. Another CME arrival is expected late on 18 January, or possibly early on 19 January, due to today's X3 flare, which should keep geomagnetic activity levels elevated. The current proton events are expected to remain in progress.
