Chandra Fifth Anniversary Webpage ========================================== Recently we released a special web section celebrating Chandra's fifth anniversary. It can be accessed from the link at the bottom of the top public page (chandra.harvard.edu) or directly from http://chandra.harvard.edu/fifth/ We hope you enjoy the celebration features and downloads. Pictures from the "Four Years of Chandra Symposium" have also recently been posted: http://chandra.harvard.edu/resources/illustrations/symposium/symp03/index.html CXC Ed/Outreach Group ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 2. Joint Conference on X-ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas ======================================================================= Second Announcement November 15-17, 2004 held at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, Cambridge, MA, USA ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Colleague, We are pleased to announce a conference, jointly sponsored by the Institute for Theoretical Atomic and Molecular Physics (ITAMP), the Chandra X-ray Center, the Constellation-X mission, and the Astro-E2 Guest Observer Facility, on "X-ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas". The meeting will concentrate on X-ray diagnostics of plasma parameters, including theoretical, experimental, and observational results on emission and absorption line diagnostics. Particular emphasis will be given to recent progress in dielectronic and inner-shell lines. Invited speakers come from fields of atomic theory, experimental atomic physics, and spectroscopy. We hope bring recent results from these fields to the larger audience of X-ray astronomers who are using the Chandra and XMM-Newton grating data or who plan to use the high-resolution data from Astro-E2. A detailed description of the meeting, including information on registration and submitting contributed talks and posters, can be found on the conference website: http://itamp.harvard.edu/xdap.html Partial List of Speakers and Titles: Nigel Badnell "Dielectronic Recombination: theory, methods, and potential errors" Peter Beiersdorfer "Fe K shell experimental data" Greg Brown "Experimental results on Fe L shell diagnostics" Gary Ferland "Lessons from Non-X-ray photoionized spectroscopy" Tom Gorczyca "Status of Inner-shell and Auger theory" Ming Feng Gu "Theoretical calculations of Fe L shell diagnostics" Mario Jimenez-Garate "X-ray lines from illuminated accretion disks & LMXRB" Jelle Kaastra "Rolf Mewe: a career devoted to X-ray spectroscopy" Svetlana Kotochigova "Accurate wavelengths and the NIST Database" Martin Laming "Open Issues Regarding Ionization Balances" Chris Mauche "Fe L-shell Density Diagnostics in Theory and Practice" Anil Pradhan "Status of Astrophysical Atomic Data Needs" Delphine Porquet "He-like line diagnostics" Cara Rakowski "Non-equilibrium ionization plasma diagnostics" John Raymond "History of X-ray Diagnostics of Astrophysical Plasmas" Francis Robicheaux "A Primer on Atomic Theory Calculations" Wilt Sanders "Overview of Existing and Planned X-ray Missions" Daniel Savin "Ionization and recombination: laboratory measurements and observational consequences" Eric Silver "High-energy high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy" Allan Whiteford "Lessons from fusion X-ray spectroscopy for astronomers" Jacco Vink "Detailed X-ray Spectroscopy of SN 1006" Contributed Presentations In addition to the invited presentations, approximately 10 contributed talks will be scheduled. Participants are also invited to contribute posters. Deadlines Attendance will be limited to 150 participants, due to space constraints at the conference hotel.
