Please use this website to update your address or email: http://cxc.harvard.edu/cdo/udb/userdat.html Contents: 1. More than 15 minutes of Fame: Images for the Chandra 2006 Calendar 2. Future Chandra Science Workshops 3. Chandra Calibration Workshop 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 1. More than 15 minutes of Fame: Images for the Chandra 2006 Calendar ============================================================================ The EPO group is looking for beautiful images to include in the 2006 Chandra calendar. If you have an image that you think deserves to be on view in full color for a whole month, please forward a copy to the Chandra EPO multi-media coordinator, Kim Kowal Arcand, at kkowal@head.cfa.harvard.edu. To process it for the calendar we will eventually need the Fits file, but any version of the image is acceptable for review. We know that many spectacular images are out there. Please consider sharing with your community through this end-of year product. Please forward images that you want to be considered by April 30, 2005. We usually need to have the images finalized by September in order to make the printing deadline by December. If you have images that might be ready after April 30 but before September, send us something to look at so we can decide whether to hold a place open. Kathy Lestition EPO Coordinator ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 2. Future Chandra Science Workshops ========================================= The CXC is organizing Chandra Science Workshops on topics of interest to Chandra observers and theorists alike. Workshop goals are to optimize Chandra science productivity by * identifying science areas ripe for progress * identifying the most pressing scientific questions * debating good Chandra strategies to answer them In July 2004, we hosted a workshop entitled GALAXIES VIEWED WITH CHANDRA WORKSHOP. In July 2005, we will host STAR FORMATION IN THE ERA OF THREE GREAT OBSERVATORIES, both at the Sheraton Commander Hotel here in Cambridge. Nearly 100 people attend these meetings, and we aim to provide ample opportunity for discussion and debate. To see the evolving program, access http://cxc.harvard.edu/stars05/ We are soliciting ideas for another such workshop for 2006. Before making a suggestion, consider the above goals. You may also wish to check the recent and upcoming list of International Astronomy Meetings at http://cadcwww.dao.nrc.ca/meetings/meetings.html The scope of a workshop topic should be likely to generate between 50-100 attendees. Chandra Science Workshops aim at 2-3 days duration, have no registration fees, but also provide no travel reimbursement. If you suggest a meeting topic, please feel free to suggest some likely members of a Scientific Organizing Committee as well. We especially encourage participation of theorists. Thanks for your interest. Best Regards, Paul Green, for the Chandra Director's Office pgreen@cfa.harvard.edu ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 3. Chandra Calibration Workshop 2005 ========================================== The 2005 Chandra Calibration Workshop will be held on October 31 and November 1, immediately preceding the 6 Years of Chandra Symposium. Presentations are solicited on various aspects of Chandra calibration and its applications to data analysis. For further information, please contact ccw@head.cfa.harvard.edu or see http://cxc.harvard.edu/ccw/index05.html .
