CXC Web site: cxc.harvard.edu If you would like to unsubscribe from this alias, simply reply to this message to let us know. Please use this website to update your address or email: http://cxc.harvard.edu/cdo/udb/userdat.html Contents: 1. Data Reprocessing to Correct Recent Aspect Offset 2. CHANDRA SCIENCE WORKSHOPS 3. Reminder: Registration for Eight Years of Science with Chandra 4. Reminder: Cost Proposal Deadline for Cycle 9 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 1. Data Reprocessing to Correct Recent Aspect Offset ========================================================== We have begun to reprocess (Repro 3.1) all data obtained after 2006-Dec-10 and processed on or before 2007-May-22. These data were subject to a systematic aspect offset of approximately 0.4 arcsec, believed to be the result of a changed thermal environment following the procedure to cool the ACA CCD from -15C to -19C that took place between late Nov-2006 and early Jan-2007. This error has been corrected in the newly processed version of the data, which we expect to be complete within a few weeks. More information is available at: http://cxc.harvard.edu/cal/ASPECT/celmon/ Belinda Wilkes Assistant Director Chandra X-ray Center (CXC) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 2. CHANDRA SCIENCE WORKSHOPS ============================================ The CXC organizes Chandra Science Workshops on topics of interest to X-ray observers and theorists alike. Workshop goals are to optimize Chandra science productivity by * identifying science areas ripe for progress * identifying the most pressing scientific questions * debating good Chandra strategies to answer them Past workshops are listed at http://cxc.harvard.edu/cdo/past-conf.html This year's Chandra Science Workshop on X-ray Grating Spectroscopy was a great success. Thanks to all participants! You generated lots of discussion about physics and modelling that spanned the usual object-class segregation. Abstracts and presentations have now been posted to http://cxc.harvard.edu/xgratings07/agenda/abstracts.html We are soliciting ideas for future workshops. The scope of a workshop topic should be likely to generate between 50-100 attendees, and span 2-3 days duration. If you suggest a meeting topic, please feel free to suggest some likely members of a Scientific Organizing Committee as well. Paul Green for the Chandra Director's Office ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 3. Registration for Eight Years of Science with Chandra ============================================================= Reminder: Early registration for Eight Years of Science with Chandra ends August 31. http://cxc.cfa.harvard.edu/symposium_2007/ Dan Schwartz for the Organizing Committee ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item 4. Reminder: Cost Proposal Deadline for Cycle 9 ===================================================== The e-letters including detailed results of the Cycle 9 peer review are being mailed to PIs this week. Those proposals which have been recommended for time and have US-based PIs or co-Is are reminded that the deadline for submission of cost proposals is 13 Sept 2007, 6pm. For instructions and information please refer to the Proposer pages on the CXC website and/or Chapter 8 of the Cycle 9 CfP.
