CALDB Public Release Notes Version 2.10 Effective Date: 2001-12-12T20:00:00 I. Summary of Changes A. HRC-I QE version 4 (version 4) FILENAME: $CALDB/data/chandra/hrc/bcf/qe/hrciD1999-07-22qeN0004.fits This is an upgrade from the previous version (3) because it includes the latest HRC-I UV ion shield transmissions available on the CAL web page. B. PIMMS Effective Areas in FITS/CALDB format, versions 3 and 4. FILE LOCATIONS: $CALDB/data/chandra/acis/cpf/pimms/ $CALDB/data/chandra/hrc/cpf/pimms/ $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/hetg/cpf/pimms/ $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/pimms/ (These are all new directories added with CALDB 2.10.) The effective areas for the Chandra instrument and grating configurations currently supported in the proposal tool "PIMMS" are being added (and released) with the Chandra CALDB. The ONLINE version of PIMMS at CXC for AO-4 will use the active CXC CALDB to access effective area data, rather than using imported ASCII files for this purpose. C. Repaired LSFPARM files for LETG/HRC-S and LETG/ACIS-S configurations (version 2) FILENAMES: $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/lsf/acissleg1D1999-07-22lsfparmN0002.fits $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/lsf/hrcsleg1D1999-07-22lsfparmN0002.fits These are, again, input data for "mkgrmf" for two LETG configurations. Both these files contain identical data blocks in the principal HDU, a binary table. The HRC-S file is a correction to version 1, distributed with CALDB 2.9, but subsequently found to be a broken file. The ACIS-S file will be called automatically by "mkgrmf" for LETG/ACIS-S configuration observations. The previous file, hrcsleg1D1999-07-22lsfparmN0001.fits, is broken and can be deleted. It had been released with CALDB 2.9. D. Canned grating effective area files (GARFs) for LETG/HRC-S orders -1, 0, and 1. FILENAMES: $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/arf/hrcsletg0D1999-07-22arfN0003.fits $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/arf/hrcsleg1D1999-07-22arfN0003.fits $CALDB/data/chandra/tel/grating/letg/cpf/arf/hrcsleg-1D1999-07-22arfN0003.fits These are effective areas for their corresponding orders as released directly by the LETG calibration group for LETG/HRC-S configurations. These have been downloadable (with other filenames) from the CIAO threads page, but will hereafter be available from your local Chandra CALDB. II. Technical Details A. HRC-I QE version 4: The input data for this file are located at the following URL's: For the raw MCP QE: http://asc.harvard.edu/cal/Links/Hrc/CIP/Flight/mcp_qe_i.v1.mdl (data) http://asc.harvard.edu/cal/Links/Hrc/CIP/Flight/mcp_qe_i.v1.gif (plot) These are the same data as in HRC-I QE version 3. For the HRC-I UVIS transmission: http://asc.harvard.edu/cal/Links/Hrc/CIP/SACpre/uvis_i.v3.mdl (data) http://asc.harvard.edu/cal/Links/Hrc/CIP/SACpre/uvis_i.v3.gif (plot) These have new data around the Carbon K absorption edge. B. PIMMS Effective Areas The details about the PIMMS files will be posted on the CALDB proposal planning files page, at http://cxc.harvard.edu/caldb/proposal_planning.html (not yet released). C. LSFPARM files These files contain Lorentzian and Gaussian commponent parameters for the line-spread function of LETG mainly with HRC-S. A web page is forthcoming describing these data in more detail. D. LETG/HRC-S -1, 0, and 1st order GARFs We refer you to the LETG Calibrations page for effective areas. http://asc.harvard.edu/cal/Links/Letg/User/Hrc_QE/ea_index.html The files now in the CALDB are identical to those corresponding fits files available from this web page, except that the have been renamed in CALDB standard naming convention, and have had CALDB indexing keywords and boundary conditions added.
