Parking & Public Transporatation
-
Is it almost impossible to park your car within and around
the CfA. There is some very limited free unrestricted
parking along Huron Avenue (one block from the CfA), however
we strongly suggest that you use public transportation to
reach the CfA. If you absolutely need a parking space
please let us know as soon as possible by contacting
Helpdesk.
Driving
directions are available from the CfA website.
Train ("T") and bus Schedules and Maps can be found on the
MBTA website.
Subway fares are $2.00; bus fares are $1.50.
To get to the CfA by public transportation:
-
Walking:
Take the Red Line to Harvard Square. Walk left toward the
main part of the station as you exit the train. Go through
the fare gates and up the stairs/escalators at the left
to leave the station. Cross Massachusetts Avenue (the
Harvard Coop will be directly in front of you) and walk
to the right. Turn left onto Garden Street (there is a
cemetary on the corner). After a few blocks, bear right
at the light to stay on Garden Street. At the next
light, the Observatory is on your left. The walk from
the T station takes about 15 minutes.
-
By Bus:
Take the Red Line to Harvard Square. Walk left toward the
main part of the station as you exit the train. Go through
the fare gates and bear right across the station to the
ramps leading to the bus tunnel; take the upper ramp.
Once through the doors, go to the berths to your
left. Bus numbers 72, 74, 75, 78 (NOT
77) will take you to the Observatory. Ask the
driver to let you off by St. Peters School; the
Observatory is just up the stairs in the hill (on the
same side of the street as the bus stop). Either climb
those stairs, or walk one more block and enter the
Observatory parking lot entrance on Madison Street.
During rush hour you should have a wait of no longer
then 10-15 minutes for one of these buses.
