CIAO 4.18.0 released
The CXC is pleased to announce the release of CIAO 4.18.0 and related software. CIAO 4.18.0 includes several important updates, bugfixes and improvements, including:
- macOS users can now download CIAO 4.18.0 including the main CALDB files as a standard .dmg disk image file, allowing for drag-n-drop installation.
- Support for FITS K-type, 8byte integer data type which is common for files created with astropy. CIAO 4.18.0 provides support mainly for tools that operate on tables such as dmcopy, dmlist, dmstat, dmsort, dmextract, and several more.
- Corrects long keyword comments to adhere to FITS standard for reserved keywords.
- Bug fix in acis_process_events that affects the energy calibration for a few events (mostly in CC-mode).
- Corrects a bug in the glvary tool that affects the lightcurves and probability of detecting variability
- and several more.
CIAO 4.18.0 comes with
- CALDB 4.12.3 includes version 16 of the ACIS contamination model and updates to the HRC-I QE.
- Sherpa 4.18.0 adds support for optimizers from SciPy and optimagic along with the new cstatnegativepenalty fit statistic.
- CIAO contributed scripts 4.18.0 that includes the new acis_split_evt_by_fptemp script and dax's new interactive elastic ellipses task.
- SAOImageDS9 8.7b2 which provides a new auto backup and recovery option.
- MARX 6.0.1 which mainly consists of internal code changes with updated calibrations to match CALDB 4.12.3
CIAO 4.18.0 is available for Linux x86_64 (CentOS 8 era and newer) and macOS 13 through 26 -- both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/etc.)
