CIAO users who are trying to detect sources of about 10
counts or less should be aware of potential confusion with
cosmic-ray afterglows that have not been removed from the
data.
The Cosmic-Ray Afterglows why
topic explains the limitations of the current tools
and describes analysis tips to help eliminate more of the
afterglows.
FITS table file writing through the CXC Data Model slows
by a significant factor on Mac OS X machines - both 10.4
(Tiger) and 10.5 (Leopard) - when the data is accessed via
a networked file system (NFS) mount. This issue does not
affect Solaris or Linux platforms.
Chandra/CIAO Dictionary
Chandra and CIAO use a number of specialized terms, some of which are
common in X-ray astronomy data analysis, but not used elsewhere, and
some of which are specific to CIAO.
Here we provide a dictionary of these terms. We have provided
links to more information in the CIAO
webpages, on the CXC site
in general, and in external webpages as appropriate, making the
dictionary a handy place from which to explore. Help on the
CIAO tools is available from the ahelp
documentation page.
