get_num_par

Context: modeling

Synopsis

Returns the number of parameters (total, frozen, or thawed) in a model.

Syntax

get_num_par( [id] )
get_num_par_frozen( [id] )
get_num_par_thawed( [id] )

Description

  • id - the id of the dataset to use; if not given, uses the default dataset id (id=1 by default, see "ahelp get_default_id")

get_num_par

The get_num_par command returns the total number of parameters (frozen and thawed) in the model assigned to the dataset. If the model is a combination of several different model components, the number returned is the sum of the number of parameters of each model component (both frozen and thawed parameters are included).

get_num_par_frozen

The get_num_par_frozen command returns the number of frozen parameters in the model assigned to the dataset; see "ahelp freeze" for information on freezing parameters.

get_num_par_thawed

The get_num_par_thawed command returns the number of thawed parameters in the model assigned to the dataset; see "ahelp thaw" for information on thawing parameters.

Example 1

sherpa> get_num_par("src")
12

There are 12 parameters in the model for dataset "src".

Example 2

sherpa> get_num_par_frozen("src")
2

There are 2 frozen parameters in the model for dataset "src".

Example 3

sherpa> get_num_par_thawed("src")
10

There are 10 thawed parameters in the model for dataset "src".
